The SM was a beast. Beautiful, but problematic. Rust would have been the 
smallest issue compared to all those engine and electrical problems. I had 
seen many SM at the boarder of the road, smoking out of the opened hood, at 
that time... The collaboration of Citroen (car) and Maserati (engine) was 
not worked out properly. The engine did not get cooled enough in that 
stylish, but not much vented SM chassis (that's why the Benz grill you've 
seen, probably). One was forced to ride it at low speeds only - many SM 
owners gave up, some exchanged the Maserati for a Citroen CX 2.4 engine...
