They were both taken, like most of these boating pictures, from the deck of a small sailboat, in rather choppy water, and with a long tele lens. It's sort of like shooting, oh, I don't know, a fast-moving gull with that lens from the saddle of a mechanical bull. I'm really happy just to get boat completely in the frame.
