Hi Frank,
France is the nearest country to England. Most ferries to and from the  
Continent are between French and uk ports. The ferry from Spain takes  
nearly 2 days.
At it's closest there is about 21 miles, this is where the tunnel is  
but this would not be very convenient for Bath. When I lived in France  
I took the Portsmouth - Le Havre ferry overnigt it saved 170 miles.
