To me, it means there was no reason to take the photo in the first 
place.  I look at a lot of photos posted on the internet and try to 
figure out what motived somebody to click the shutter.  I'm sure the 
photographer must have had a reason at the time, but they have not 
managed to convey that.(to me anyway!)  I can even appreciate rocks 
and ferns - or peppers! - if there is interesting light.  Seeing the 
light and capturing it to show someone else means there is "something 
there".  I love photos of perfectly ordinary, everyday things - if 
they are seen in a new way.  The LUG is much better than most 
photography groups on the internet about having a purpose behind what 
is posted.  There are some really good examples of "nothing there" on 
other photography sites!
