Even with DX lenses the D700 automatically senses the smaller circle and automatically crops to 1.5X. I find it's very difficult to see any degradation. And I'm now really enjoying all my old manual focus wide angle lenses. And they look great. Of course the new 14-24 and 24-70 zooms are spectacular. I don't have either :-( but have used them.
