Indeed it is by trial and error. Just mount the adapter on the camera first,
then put the pre-assembled parts in front (with the lens set to infinity)
and look through the viewfinder. Add or remove shims to make it focus
slightly beyond infinity (to allow for the thickness of the bonding
compound). Once you have done that, you can epoxy (must be very thin) them
together.
