Thanks Geoff.....that's the ticket.... someone who has used the beast and
knows how it should be set up......

The V and the 4000 are slightly different, but I can still use your input as
a guideline.....

Frank, I'll send you some screenshots of the settings I use for transparency
film with the Coolscan V.  I'll need to setup but I fire them off to you
within a couple of days. As to bw neg, I never got a scan that I was very
happy with by anything I tried.

I received my ( used) Coolscan 4000, and it works, somewhat.....

I am getting scans that are soft, and seemingly of low saturation.

Using films strips and the 6 neg direct input module.  Nikon Scan 4.02
Software.  ( not 3.0 that came with the scanner originally).

Film is either B+W or Velvia, in strips.  ( I finally got it to reverse the
negative films image to a positive... that on its own was a big deal.)

How do you set this thing up to get good scans?
