Didier, my calculations were on Aussie prices and my view is that a good
used Leica M is a valid alternative to a new ZI. Yes on new
to new price comparisons the Leica M's clearly cost more. With a price
ceiling and only comparing new to new, then I think that the
Cosina Voigtlanders are excellent value too. Coming from the same factory, I
don't think that the ZI should cost more than twice as
much as the CV. Absolutely it is personal opinion what each individual
considers the most important factors. Price, warranty,
reliability, features, user experience, brand, etc. For similar amounts of
money, my choice has been used Leica over new anything
else. Certainly new Leica bodies cost a lot. I just got the bill for my very
first new M body! Also though in my experience, having
paid considerable sums for used Leica equipment, I have found its retained
value to be very good when the time comes to upgrade. I
agree with Steve. Having said that, I think that the Zeiss ZM lenses are
superb quality and valid alternatives to the Leica glass.
If there are any ZI owners on the list it will be very interesting to hear
their opinions/experiences in reply to Ernie's original
post. I wouldn't want to divert his thread any more.
Regards
Geoff

Agreed, but as an individual with a certain amount of money to spend I'd
have to weigh up all those factors and make a decision to purchase new or
used.

Personally given the choice of a new Zeiss or a used M6/7 I'd chose the
Leica.

Steve
