Elizabeth,

I use the R800 and have not seen that specific effect.  As you go through 
the sequence to make a print, the Epson software requires that you enter 
choices for the type of paper in use and the quality of print that you wish. 
Your example reminds me of what one might get when using the default 
settings for typing paper and text quality.  Did you specify the paper and 
photo quality that you were using?
