It's been said to me that commander-in-chief is derivative from
imperator.
Every time I hear "Hail to the Chief" I grit my teeth. While I know
that much of this republic's roots are grounded in neo-classicism,
ovational and triumphal music for an individual seems to me to be an
anti-republican gesture.

As I recall, 1936 was also year when a guy named A. Hitler was

parallels to today? OBL could be the Hitler of today, except for
Messrs. Bush and Cheney who have kept him holed up somewhere in a cave.

The monumental figures were those who stood up to those who would
destroy liberty. The same thing will have to happen now.

Variation on Catch 22--The enemy is anyone who's trying to steal your
Constitution, including your commander-in-chief. You can bet he'll
claim he's doing it for your own good and protection.
