Peter,

Firstly try swapping the USB cable. Then try this disk on a different  
computer.

After that, if the actual HD is removable from the enclosure, try  
installing the HD in a different external enclosure just in case the  
electronics has gone south.

If none of those works, then worry because your HD may be faulty. It  
does happen not often particularly with a drive that is not used  
(powered) much.
