I apologize for what may be a poor choice of words. 
If by "this series" you mean Ken Burns's "The War" on PBS, I can't speak for
him. I appreciate his efforts but I do not like some of the results; the
"home front" part doesn't work for me. The combat film footage selection, on
the other hand, is remarkable. I assume that most of it (on land, anyway)
was shot with the 35mm Bell and Howell Eyemo, a 7-pound camera that held
100ft of film (a minute at 24 frames per second). The cameraman had to carry
a supply of 100-ft open reel cans.
