See  http://www.archives.gov/research/ww2/photos/  for a selection of photos
from WWII.

I personally did not meet Allied photographers until 1945 by which time
almost every one of them had a captured Leica or Contax. The Signal Corps
photographers still used their Speed Graphics for "official" (i.e., posed)
photographs.
