The tender had to make a short row to the draw every morning. There was a large turnstile wrench that was fastened in the center of the girder draw. The tender then walked in circles pushing the wrench to open and close the bridge. He would sit and read and listen to the radio in the little shed there between openings and closings. As the bridge was on the sound side of Washington, it was opened after the day's last freight, and stayed open until the tender returned to work the next morning.
