Stay away from Norton, whatever you do. Basic maintenance is easily 
done with Applejack, which is free and works in Single User mode, so 
that it can do a thorough job without needing to run from a CD or 
external drive. It'll clean up various caches and temporary files and 
do a bunch of other things. You can find it via versiontracker.com.
