In my opinion, monochrome added emotion and a feeling of the place one 
was in.  You might consider loosening the crop on the left and trying 
monochrome  or trying monochrome to the original shot.  I think you 
might get a feel of indifference from the people behind the counter.  
You are getting close to something here.
