Hi Howard,

It's a menu option when the M8 recognizes the 6 bit code. When menu  
is pushed make sure lens detection is turned ON or ON+UV/IR. Every  
time you change focal lengths press MENU again and then press SET at  
the Lens Detection at the top of the screen. Press SET again and the  
three focal length choices will appear. Set the focal length.

What I don't like about the WATE is Leica's filter holder. It is  
large and accepts 67mm filters. It also has two large see through  
slots which let light in which can bounce off the rear of the filter  
and cause flare. I taped the slots shut. It also prevents use of a  
lens hood. The much better alternative filter holder is the Milich  
holder. It's expensive ($150 I think) but allows use of 49mm filters  
and the Leica supplied hood. I believe you can find out where to buy  
the Milich hood on Sean Reid's site.
