Graham and Jerry, that is truly amazing. Jerry, you are saying that the 
bridge is an aqueduct, part of the canal system, actually
passing over the natural water course?
I'm not trying to be funny. Did you ever read CS Forester "Hornblower and 
the Atropos"

Graham,

I wonder how may of the non-Brits seeing your BW photo realize that the 
thing on the "bridge"
is not a wheeled vehicle.  It is a canal boat or "long boat".
