Padre,
It really is not as dire as quoted. If this is a relatively new machine set
up for digital input(meaning it scans the negatives to a file which is
printed as opposed to optically printing) then it will not oxidize the
develper quickly. This is especially true if it uses box mixes of chemistry
as opposed to 10litre mixes.

Reality is that you should run the equivalent of twenty rolls a week through
the machine to keep the replinishment system on the up and up. Now the
downside, these are pretty complex manchines that need to be broken down a
certain way and rinsed etc. If you decide to be tempted find a source of
chemistry and paper as you can't just buy the correct stuff at Kroger. You
will also need to find a source for test strips so that you will know how in
or out of balance your machines are. Also, you absolutely must have the
manuals that came with the machines or just completely forget the
proposition.

Why would the church want this? If you do a fair amount of in-house
promotion/recognition then having the ability to make prints would be a
money saver as the true cost of prints is closer to 6 cents for
paper/chemistry/electricity assuming reasonable volume. This would
especially be true if it is indeed one of the newer digitally enabled
printers.

As to why it is so cheap, the industry is consolidating pretty quickly and
the resale market is flooded. One of our listers was offered a completely
refurbed Fuji 390 for about 50K; originally this was well over 250K and was
the top of the line workhorse digital printer(capacity over 4000 prints an
hour).

Contact me off list if you have any questions.
