It made a huge difference. I do usually run a number of programs, including my main CAD program, Vectorworks. Add Safari and Eudora and that makes up my main suite. Then add iView, or now Expression, as well as Lightroom or Photoshop, and 2Gb isn't enough. 2Gb chips are now inexpensive enough, and I got one of those, so I'm now up to 3Gb. Much better. If you don't run many programs, get 2Gb. If you often run a couple of large programs, or Photoshop and a DAM program, get 3Gb. I had a G4 Powerbook before as a laptop, and it didn't seem to need as much. I had 1.25Gb in it, which is all it would take and I could run everything about as easily as I can with 2Gb on the Mac Intel machine. My main Quad G5 has 8Gb, and seems happy with that. Most things that memory helps is quite good on that, but the new Photoshop is very good on the MacBook Pro, as is Lightroom. In fact, I think Lightroom is overall as good or better on the MacBook Pro as it is on the Quad G5. The MacBook Pro also has the 160Gb 7200rpm drive, which gives it another boost. -- * Henning J.
