Howard Ritter is exactly right in every detail, but I always think of this 
issue as being like currency exchange. If you are buying gigabytes with 
dollars, they are 1024. If you are selling gigabytes for dollars, they are 
1000. The main difference is that the person with the green eyeshade who 
computes the spread (024) is in San Jos?, California and not in Z?rich, 
Switzerland.
