Larry, I believe the main reason to use HDs rather than DVDs is concern about the longevity of the CD/DVD media rather than ease of use. You assume that your DVDs will be readable a few years from now. You may be right, but you cannot be sure. This past week I ran into three unreadable CDs at the office. (In these cases, engineering degrees did not help. :-) To be fair, this is not that common and there was another unrecoverable backup in a Jaz drive.
