Subject: [Leica] Lenses without 6 bit code for M8

Hi Luggers,
I have been spending a lot of time on the various combinations of
coded wide angle lenses, uncoded lens, IR cut filters both from
Heliopan and Leica (when you can find them) and here are my general
findings. If you don't shoot a lot in tungsten light - i.e. outdoors
- you can likely get by without filters or coding what ever the focal
length. If you shoot indoors under tungsten light conditions,
depending on how fussy you are, and depending on how skilled you are
in photoshopping, from 35mm and wider you might want to consider both
IR cut filters and coded lenses. For example I have had coded my 21
Elmarit, my 35 Summilux Asph and my Tri Elmar. In tungsten light
there is a definite difference in the way the CCD reads the light and
corrects in corners - with filters and coding on - which is MUCH
easier to work with in Silky Pix and / or Photoshop than trying to
correct both for colour temperature and corner cyan shift after the
fact. This is the case at my skills level (I am going to take a two
day photoshop course at the Y next month and then I may have a
different opinion). In my fooling around I don't see much difference
in the output of the camera and wide angle lenses whether you use a
Leica IR cut filter or a Heliopan one. In other on line forums some
have measured it but I see little difference in real life photos. My
project at the moment is to fit a 39mm IR cut filter to my 15mm
Heliar and to find an adapter that I can code as the 16mm length of
the WATE. Does anybody have a Leica ltm>m adapter (any focal length
is fine) that they can sell me? The CV ones won't work. If you do
contact me off list please.
Cheers
Howard
