I am not Frank, and I don't care about this issue a single bit, but if 
someone were to pay Leica a few million $$$, here's what they can do: they 
can add a little optical sensor about where the red dot is. The 6 bit 
encoding tells the camera what the focal length is and the camera then can 
tell where the aperture ring is. The optical sensor can then do a little 
character recognition and tell what the current aperture is. The camera 
doesn't even have to do all the calculation, it can encode the little 
bitmap of what it sees in the EXIF data and host PC program can do the 
character recognition. Never challenge a geek on the "possibility." If 
money is no objection, we can send people to the moon. :-)
