Luis mi amigo, you must have been looking at too many pretty senoritas and
forgot your high school maths ;-)
The diagonal of a 24mm x 36mm rectangle is 43.266 mm

Cheers

Stan,

In my opinion your theory is not exactly, the diagonal of 24 x 36 is
something more than 45 mm, and for this reason a lens around 50
mm is considered as "normal", if the diagonal of the M8 sensor is 32mm, IMO
this minds that the normal lens would be one in between
35 mm and 28 mm, this is a different concept of your theory. A different
thing is the angle of view of a lens, a 50mm on 24x36
mind's that at a distance of 5 meters you catch an horizontal field pof 3,5
meters, with a 90 mm you rich the same horizontal field
at 9 meters, with a 135 , at 13,5m and with a 35mm at 3,5 m.

Saludos cordiales
Luis

I did the math on the diagonal of the 18x27mm sensor of the M8. Turns out to
be 32mm near enough, which is what the 24 becomes on an
M8. So the 24 is the theoretical "normal" for the M8. However, the 50mm
'normal' lens on 35mm film cameras would be better matched
by a 28mm on the M8 (=37mm.)

Actually, the 28 framelines of the M8 VF include slightly more than the 50
lines of my M2's VF.

And, since a 35mm lens is/was the functional 'normal' with film for many of
us, a 21mm lens would be the near-equivalent on an M8.

Or am I all wet?
