I know of what you speak. I don't disagree at all about the up sides  
of digital capture. I'm totally into it. I love it. However, and it's  
probably true of all economics, you can always make the numbers  
appear to do tricks. I just don't kid myself about what the  
transition has cost me when I factor all things into the equation.  
Digital photography is many wonderful things to many wonderful  
people. But a money saver it ain't been. And it won't be until the  
upgrade paths stabilize and you've actually bought your last digital  
camera, your last computer and your last RAW processor; and now just  
produce work with it for the next 15 to 20 years. That's how it was.  
That's not how it is.
