They have been in business a ong time (at least in computer years). http://www.drivesavers.com/ Also, don't mess around too much with the disk until you get it to someone who knows how to recover data, so that you won't inadvertently corrupt something easily recoverable. After you get the data back, RAID is a good idea. A friend of mine just got an external 2-disk drive (hot-swappable) from LaCie that was pretty much plug and play. No computer expertise required. I'm sure there are many others out there as well.
