Of course the 14MP is a kind of marketing thing. But in fact, it's neither 
4.7 nor 14 MP. The way pixels are usually counted does not work for that 
layered foveon sensor. But what can be said is that it's dynamic range is 
much superior to any 4.7MP CCD sensor. Find more about it here
