Douglas, I think the argument is that the way the sensor captures colour is 
fundamentally different.
Don't some of the Fujifilm cameras use this design? Purportedly their colour 
rendition is meant to be very good.

The Foveon sensor is 3 x 4.7 MP, so the way I see it,  it records 3 
colour layers with a sum total of 14 MP, processes them and outputs a 
4.7 MP file.
Or have I got this wrong? The 14MP tag seems to be just marketing hype 
to me.
