I lived in Savannah for years - down in the squares (on Monterey for awhile mind you), out by the marsh, out by both malls, and in between over a period of time. Beautiful, tranquil and serene Savannah may be, but a chaste haven of Puritanism it is NOT (and that's not necessarily a bad thing). Walt, St. Patty's may not be Mardi Gras, but you can get into as much trouble as you want to any night of the week - but particularly next month - down on the squares. OTOH, just like in N.O., you can go to a nice restaurant, awesome museums and incredible church services and never be bothered by that other side of society while visiting the same city which breeds any sin you can seek out. Remember, we're the town that since the 18th century has had secret tunnels going from the "respectable" side of town down to the river. It's just kept out of sight a bit more perhaps - but it's there. As much as I didn't care for him, THAT aspect of Savannah, Berent did get right.
