Phil,

I have also found that Photoshop LE fails to load properly on my XP desktop 
about half the time.  For that reason, I have been experimenting with both 
Lightroom and Photoshop Elements 5.0. For my needs, PE 5.0 appears to be the 
solution.  You can download a "try before buy version" from the Adobe 
website.
