Agree that Brucker's No 8 by Hans Knappertbusch is excellent
As a Mahler fan - I recommend :
No. 1 - Jascha Horentstein
No. 2 - Otto Klemperer / Elisabeth Swartzkopf
No. 3 - Jascha Horentein
No. 4 - George Szell / Judith Raskin
No. 5 - Sir George Solti
Have also attended a concert of No 2 conducted by Gilbert
Kaplan - an amateur lover of the No 2

Jeffery,
I agree with you, once you listen Fischer-Dieskau on certain things you
never love another one, even so there are some baritones I like on a similar
style Simon Keenlyside as Comte d'Almaviva, Thomas Hampson, and Thomas
Quasthoff.
Concerning Bruckner, Gunter Wand is a great specialist, but I would like to
recomend you to listen too Hans Knappertsbusch, the 8th Symphony by Kna is
great.
For Mahler I don't have any recording from Chailly, IMO they are great
recordings with Sinopoli, Szell, Barbirolli, Abbado, and Rattle..., well I
tell you my preferred I have at home.., and don't miss the "Knaben
Wunderhorn" with Fischer-Dieskau and Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, George Szell
conducting...is magical!
Saludos cordiales
Luis

I can't tolerate any Winterreise not sung by Fischer-Dieskau. And Carmina
Burana pretty much as to be by Slatkin. I'm trying to learn to like
Bruckner, and am searching for the best renderings of those symphonies. I
think Wand might be the place to go.
And, against the critics, I like Chailly's Mahler the very best.

This arrive sometimes with the very great myths, i.e. to leasen a
Winterreise should be Fischer-Dieskau, to listen Wotan Hans Hotter, and
still many thing the magicals hands of Furtwangler!
Sludos cordiales

I'm of the camp that thinks Kleiber's best recording is the Brahm's 4th
symphony. After hearing it a few times, I just cannot hack the others.

I have most of the Kleiber recordings on black disk (but they are staying
here...). The Beethoven 7 is exceptional if you can find it. I am glad I
invested in a Keith Monks record cleaning machine way back, though in
today's USD it was probably the cost of an M8.
