Since you were a utility man, I can understand sorting through a lot of 
reeds.

Through Erin, I met a lot of oboists. All of them made their own reeds, 
even the then BSO principal oboists.

It was almost ritualistic, kinda like people who shot and then develop 
their own B&W film! :-)
