It is communicating wirelessly to the Linksys router which is wired to a cable modem. The original problem was it was perceived that a 2nd laptop connected to the router via ethernet cable was keeping the wireless network active and removing it or powering it down would stop the wireless network from working. I believe what Tina did was remove the connection between the old laptop and the router and the wireless laptop continued to work.
