Subject: [Leica] High ISOs Comparison

Dom, I don't have an M8 and I don't know whether the sensor output is
natively 16 bit. I suspect not. I browsed the 32 page Kodak
specification for the sensor without being any the wiser! However posted DNG
samples
<http://www.outbackphoto.com/reviews/equipment/leica_m8/Leica_M8_review.html>
do show as 16 bit in Photoshop. Makes a 59MB TIFF when you save it, that
should tell you something! AFAIK 12 0r 14 bit files will be
reported as 16 bit as well. I think the important thing is that the files
apparently do have a great tonal range and are well able
to tolerate adjustment without the histograms deteriorating, which I think
is what you are asking. That is the DNGs. Jpegs of course
are 8 bit.
Cheers
Hoppy

Thank you George.

I am reassured, but there are doubters out there aplenty.

According to Leica's spec sheet:
