Subject: [Leica] Leica Announcement (before the official announcement)

Keep yelling, especially those of you that have a few lenses, and those who
have not purchased yet.... it will be fixed properly
(IMO) only with pressure.. The right coating must be applied to the sensor
cover plate. That is the only proper fix. Filters are a
cheap way out. Remember, a glass surface, no matter where it is in the
optical chain, has the inherent disadvantage of more
surfaces for internal reflection, and subsequent loss of contrast. An
optical coating does not.

Leica keeps making noise about the thickness of the sensor glass plate.
Does not computer..... ( although glass does have a filter
component, you COULD make it thinner....)... It is a coating on the existing
plate that must be done, and that will be in the order
of angstroms thick. Not something you would notice with your average
micrometer.....

"..... the IR filter thing seems permanent, at least there is no mention of
it being an interim solution. There is some vague
language about Leica constantly improving the firmware etc., but certainly
as I read it there is no prospect of any solution other
than filters for the current generation of M8. ....."
