Those non-Leica LTM lenses have nice glass, but the corroded bodies can be
murder. John Van Stelten is still trying to get my 50/1.5 Sonnar LTM apart
so it can be cleaned and lubed.

Hoppy

Leitz was forbidden to use the Smakula vacuum
coating technology owned by Zeiss until 1960, so
they were forced to use a drip-coating method in
the interim which often caused the coating to be
soft and evanescent. After 1960, all Leitz/Leica coatings are really hard.

There is a good book which you might want to
acquire, entitled NON-LEITZ LEICA THREAD-MOUNT
LENSES: A 39mm DIVERSITY, as this matter is
discussed there. The book is MOST highly
recommended -- for that matter, Jeffrey Smith
needs to get a copy also, to see all the 5cm/50mm
lenses which are missing from his arsenal.
