Thank you Philippe,
it looks easy when they're finished - but it takes a lot of cutting and
filling with soft light to get it to work. It's done in steps with
increasing feathering and simultaneous reduction of the fill proportion
to get the misty glow effect around the edges. Takes a long time and
sometimes needs an extra shot of gaussian blur to cover up the overlaps.
It would probably be easier now I've got CS2, but these shots were all
processed in Elements 3.0, which is a little limited. The backdrop was
just an A3 piece of paper stuck to a cardboard box, the lighting is from
my office window and redirected with small mirrors - that was a problem
that meant I could only work on the shooting between 9:00 and 13:00
because after that the light went round to the other side of the house.
If you look carefully at the bottom right of some of the shots, you can
still see where I cloned out the crocodile clips holding the stems.
Cheers
Douglas
