At least I got that part right, but I also thought that the F3 shutter blinds were cloth, which they ain't. And I was looking at one when I typed that. I've never seen a problem with any of the vertical shutters in the old Nikons, either. I understand that many of the later manual focus 35mm camera (OEM made?) models, not designed for motor drives, use a pretty standardised unit. I think it may be a Copal design? Not the same as the titanium marvels of the FMs and FE2s. I was very surprised when Jeffery explained that he has had multiple problems with those fitted to CV cameras and the ZI RF. That's scary and doubly so when the ZI is priced quite a bit above the CV stuff. Hey I just had my 1954 M3 CLA'd and they tell me the top shutter speed was operating at 1/4000th sec! Who needs a stinkin' vertical metal shutter. I must have been dreaming of the M8. ;-) However the R4SP, and my R8, and all R series camera bodies have teh vertical shutter and all work very reliably. Actualy, I think the old Nikkormat Ftn had a vertical shutter also. Mine never failed.
