[Leica] Trying to understand M8

I'm currently not that crazy about slide film (but do admit that it converts
*beautifully* to grayscale). At one time, I lived on Ektachrome 400 (late
70's). I do like the look of B&W silver halide films, and I like the alchemy
of souping old black and white films in old black and white developers. So
part of me fears that if I get myself an M8 or Epson RD, my film bodies
might begin to collect dust. That seems like a stupid thing to think or
say...if you do better work with a digital rangefinder or find yourself
using a digital rangefinder more often, then neglecting other equipment
should be a secondary concern. But I suppose that I never had an
extramarital affair for fear that I would neglect my wife.

Henning has tried out all the lenses he has, and that is quite a few  
including all the wide Voitinas, and they all work well on the M8;  
much better than they work on the RD1. So I wouldn't worry about  
coding issues.

There are other issues mind you; some cost related. I was doing some  
casual shooting at a friend's wedding last night. I had three bodies  
going. I suppose I could have got by with two but that is still a  
$10K investment. That is a long cool drink of water by any measure.  
Also 90% of my shooting is with reversal. I  really, really like the  
projected slide. I would have to sort that end of the equation too.  
The other significant issue is the lack of fast wides. I would need a  
28/1.4 no ifs and or buts about it.

The ability to free up one's shooting cannot be overstated. I think I  
will end up with a Leica M digital but not right away.
