However, given that the lens mount is being replaced and the lens collimated, I guess not too surprising. The issue will be whether you think it is worth having done, once you have an M8 in hand and you shoot your current lenses on it. I think its pretty ingenious, since it maintains perfect backwards compatibility and also adds no electronics nor reduction in reliability to your lenses. The Leica initial announcements, and I think one of the reviews, indicate that the code will put the lens used info in the exif. That's no biggie. But it will add optional correction for light fall off in the corners (due to the nature of the sensor) via the firmware. The outer micro-lenses over the sensor are apparently angled to assist counteract this phenomenon. This seems likely to be important given how close the rear lens elements can be to the sensor. That correction is calculated for the measured performance of that particular lens model. Then you can choose to use or ignore that data within the RAW. Pretty neat I'd say.
