Subject: [Leica] OT: Vegemite, an Australian practical joke
From: nickbroberts at yahoo.co.uk (Nick Roberts)

You fell for it! Vegemite is an Australian joke. Every Aussie tells you it's
the best thing ever (usually "Strewth! It's a beaut" or "It's bonzer,
mate!") but have you EVER seen one eating the stuff? They're not that
stupid! They get the non-Aussie sucker to eat it whilst chuckling into their
near-frozen beer (it has to be that cold so that the tastebuds are numbed
enough not to notice the taste - unlike the products of the big US brewers,
which are chilled so that you don't notice they don't have any taste at
all!). Same thing with "bush tucker" (the bugs I referred to).

Now Hoppy's just sore because we've got the Ashes, and our injury-ravaged
team has managed to hit a bit of form again... ;)

All to be taken with a huge pinch of salty Vegemite,

Nick

About 20 years ago during a trainride from San Jose, CA. to Olympia, WA. I
shared breakfast with two wonderful ladies from Australia. They said the
meal was excellent except for the absence of Vegimite. I made a point of
giving it a try at my first opportunity. I think the product I found was
made by Kraft foods (?) I found it extremely salty.
