Late to the topic, but most of these are really fantastic.

How, in 1949, did Kubrik get the wide angle look and
DOF in "Club, Chicago 1949" ?   Is this one of the pics
that Phlippe thinks might be staged?

The contrast is very cool. For folks like me, who don't
have an formal education in the history of photography,
photos like this from the past can highlight new possibilities
for one's own work.
