[Author Prev] [Author Next] [Thread Prev] [Thread Next] [Author Index] [Topic Index] [Home] [Search]I discovered this week that my favorite breakfast spot on Harrison (Coffee and Company) will reopen, but as a Starbucks [choke!]. For now, we are having breakfast on Harrison at what used to be Charlie's Deli, now known as Touche's. On a typical morning, there are 4 Delgado people in there along with 5 or 6 construction workers (demolition workers is more like it) and 12-15 National Guard, protecting the Lakeside houses from looters. Movement of families into the city has pretty much come to a screeching halt, so we are looking at a city with about 1/5 of its previous inhabitants. I was intelligent enough to buy a house that was on high ground when it was built around 1850, but I wasn't intelligent enough to think about what would happen if the other 80% of the city was under water. You know, BD, that remark reminds me of the day that Rush Limbaugh shouted, "Where are the thousands of bodies?" after the storm like the predictions. Excuse me but I am too damn close, and I admire the guy's work, and but for a VERY few differences in choices, it could have been me. My former home,my former church, the school my kids went to are all gone. Gone are ALL the restaurants and neighborhood bars I frequented. No more Italian sausage poboys at Mandinas. I don't think I lost anyone I know, but I have no way of actually knowing.
