Do a test with marginal negs first. Clip the negs on alligator clips, on their edges to dry them. Or, air dry inside the plastic reel themselves. You'll find that the time spent on a rewash with cut strips will be about the same as spotting them, if not longer. Frankly, unless you have brackish water, i.e. well water mixed with river water, there is absolutely no reason to have serious spotting issues. Even then a double filtration system will take care of that.
