The bird in your garden looks like a young heron-spieces: a roerdomp (
Botaurus stellaris) or kwak (Nycticorax nycticorax) or a woudaapje
(Ixobrychus minutus).
How big is the bird?

Lucky you, they are seldom seen in the neighbourhood of people.
