I agree with Ted here; they're two different photographs with really 
completely different kinds of impact.  The B&W shot spotlights Maria 
nicely but, at least for me, loses a lot of overall impact that was 
being carried by the bright colors.  It's a simpler photograph to 
look at.  I'm not sure whether I think that's a good thing.  I kind 
of like the riotous color effects, just because I think they give a 
better feel for the cultural context.  

I'd keep both, myself, though I might not post them side by side.

Ted, if you open two windows, one with each shot, and flip back and 
forth you'll see that the only change in the image is the switch from 
color to B&W.  The photo stays the same.
