As previously posted, and with all respect to Nathan, my experience  
is exactly the opposite. I buy the largest card I can afford (a 4 gig  
yesterday), plop it in the camera, and then never remove it. I have  
also never lost a digital image in six plus years of digital  
shooting, and three plus years exclusively and professionally digital.

I use Macs, and most of my cameras use the compact flash cards. These  
cards have little, dinky holes in them and it takes just a small  
amount of dust to block one hole enough to render the card flakey or  
useless. SD and XD memory have larger, open connections, and  
presumable would be less affected by this.
