The only issue I've had with CV lenses has been their tendency to
flare in the highlight, and that their contrast reminds me of Nikon
glass of the 60's and 70's. Considering that their current 40mm SC is
meant to replicate that particular tonality from that very era, it's
not too surprising for their other lenses to share that similarity.
On it's own merit, there is nothing wrong with that.
I went with Leica glass for a coolness in tonality, and a clarity,
that very few other optics have. I'm a lazy printer. Leica negs,
along with other high end German optics, are plain lay downs in the
darkroom. If I can crank out exhibition grade prints in a couple of
days from those kind of negs, why should I spend days on end in the
darkroom with negs made with inferior products. If it's money or
time, I'd rather spend the money to save the time.
But, I have to say that the 28mm Color-Skopar is one sweet lens. It
doesn't flare in the manner that the f1.9 is prone to. And yes, I've
owned both.
