Hoppy - Here are my comments on each of your shots. I've been the
beneficiary of many helpful lessons from the guys and gals here and
wanted to pass on some of what (I hope) I've learned.

#1 - I really like the brilliant color. You have the point of
interest at about the upper third of the frame which is good. I
would have wanted to pull back a bit so as not to crop off the claws
on the right and left.

#2 - Nice portrait with soft, subtle light. There has been some
disagreement on the LUG as to whether or not a subject should stare
into the camera or not but this one works for me.

#3 - As Ted Grant would say, "shoot from the shadow side." Someone,
I believe Don, all ready commented on the reflections and I would add
it might have been better to move a bit to the left so that more of
your subject's face was in shadow and more contoured. Still a very
nice photo, though.

#4 - I really like this shot. All the forms and colors and shadows
really work for me. It looks tilted a bit though, and a 1, 1.5 or 2
degree CCW rotation in PS would square it up nicely.

#5 - Tree roots and peeling paint photos generally leave me cold but
the diagonal composition is nice here. As I understand it, pictures
like these are all about tonality and detail and are probably best
left to large format/large print output. Others might (are probably
going to, in fact) differ.

#6 - The farmhouse is nicely placed in the frame but for me something
isn't working. Maybe too much sky, maybe something else. It might
be interesting to see any alternates you have of the same subject.

Hope this is helpful. Others may disagree, but I wanted to give you
a complete set of comments on your first posting. It's not always so
easy to get the LUG to actually talk about pictures. ;-)

Keep 'em coming.
